Here are some pictures from Myanmar aka Burma (or other way around, I don't know)
Due to the lack of a large tourism industry in Myanmar(only 791,000 people in 2011 compared to Bangkok's 16 million) accommodations were overpriced and sub-par.
Maggie and I stayed at the Golden Lotus, a little bit outside of downtown Yangon. For the first couple of days we did not see one other white person and I was loving the attention we got whenever we left the hotel.
All the buses in Yangon are privately owned so at rush hour every square inch on any bus is completely filled, including the roof and the outsides. This picture is very tame compared to rush hour.
Every meal is served with tea
And everyone eats at these little plastic tables
When we first got a taxi at the airport, I was completely grossed out by the driver's teeth because they were blood red. I soon realized that so were everyone's teeth. They chew on betel nut with tobacco rapped up in a leaf. They are made and sold at stands like this one:
Our taxi driver for the day thought it would be a good cultural experience to try it...very lovely, I know, but hey when in Burma do as the Burmese do, right??
Sorry Maggie!
And this is what every street looks like from the aftermath:
Bye!
